The Pravda of Piracy

August 13th, 2009 in History Happening Today by Brian King

Since Great History has several pieces on piracy, this one caught my eye today.  It appears that a Maltese-flagged vessel with a Russian crew, apparently carrying lumber, has gone missing off the coast of Spain.  The article mentions theories of piracy and mysterious cargo, but also alludes to an internal dispute suggesting they were boarded by other Russians.  In either case, it appears the ship is being hunted by Russian warships and technology.

I find it hard to believe that in this day and age any ship can just disappear for any length of time – so I expect a follow up to this shortly.

From BBC News.

Follow up: Apparently the ship has been found today. Next up, who is in charge of the ship, where is it going, what is on board, etc.

Russian navy vessels have found the Arctic Sea. Still no word on exactly what happened, but the crew is reported alive and unharmed. Apparently there are no pirates on board either…
