Beer Summit Comes to White House

July 30th, 2009 in History Happening Today by Brian King

The presidential “Beer Summit” is coming today! We are all familiar with the massive PR blowback handed to President Obama after he got involved with a local police issue involving a friend of his, Henry Gates Jr. Today, in what has been dubbed the “Beer Summit” President Obama has invited his friend and the officer in question (James Crowley) to share a beer with him at the White House and hopefully put the whole incident into the past.

It is interesting to note that there is considerable interest in what beers the three men will be drinking. The president has said he will be drinking Bud Light, while Crowley has tagged Blue Moon as his beer of choice, and Gates is said to favor Red Stripe. Much has been made of the fact that none of these beers are 100% American owned beverage companies. Others are apparently mad at the whole concept of using an alcoholic beverage to solve problems and want there to be lemonade at the summit.

Will this be an infamous day in presidential history, or something a bit frothier? Only history knows.

For the record, if this author was going to the Beer Summit, I would take along a six-pack of my good friend’s home brew. No matter that it tastes like pine-tree bark, it is 100% American beer! What would you drink?
