Another Bad Day in Afghanistan

July 24th, 2010 in Current Events by Frank Chadwick

Five or six U.S. servicemen are dead and two captured in Afghanistan. Five died in a roadside bomb attack in southern Afghanistan. One more (according to the Taliban) died in captivity after a vehicle was seized south of Kabul. Two other soldiers in the vehicle are now captives of the Taliban.

Here are articles on the incidents from CNN, Reuters, and AP.

About the Author: The major landmarks in Frank's historical interests range from ancient Persia through the Crimean War, World War II, and the modern U.S. Armed Forces, with a lot of stops in between. 1. Here’s an update. The two servicement were sailors, not soldiers. One was killed in the encounter with the Taliban and one remains alive and a prisoner. The two were driving an armored Toyota land cruiser in Taliban territory when the attack took place but U.S. officials have not been able to say why the two sailors were in that area. Here is a link to a recent story on the attempts to recover the surviving sailor and the remains of the other.
